Featured Friday: Our Fave College Bloggers

World — 04 January 2013

Let’s face it – we would be nothing without a support system, whether that be made up of friends, family, fellow students, or, in this case, our fellow college bloggers. Who better to gain inspiration from than other talented, thoughtful writers dedicated to the same cause: helping you survive the chaos that is college life? Exactly. That’s why we just had to pay tribute to them! These sites are not only informative and helpful, they’re also entertaining and really cater to the needs of college students.

These are the college bloggers we know we can always count on for awesome, honest, fun, and important content (which we love to share!) They’re not only our favorites of 2012 – they’re also the sites you should keep an eye on in 2013 (if you’re not doing so already.) Check out our favorites!

HackCollege

To be fair, you’ve probably already been reading Hack College for a long time now, and you probably already love it (so, you know exactly why we’re featuring it!) For those who don’t, we love HackCollege because they really embody their motto, “work smarter, not harder” in all of their posts, featuring cool products that are perfect for college students (most recently the “BROpener,” currently a project on Kickstarter,) advice (like “How To Solve Your Hangover” and “A Quick and Dirty Guide to Accelerated Job Hunting,”) and all-around interesting info to help students make the most out of their college careers and beyond. What’s not to love?

That Girl Magazine

We love That Girl Magazine for its sheer honesty and humor, and most of all for Writer/Editor Clara’s undying wit. As she puts it, “That Girl Magazine is a college blog that should have existed years ago…for girls who have a favorite philosopher and also a favorite brand of nail polish. It’s for girls who are passionate about the environment, but might still drive all the way to Connecticut to pick up the new Lilly Pulitzer agenda…[It's] about days in the library and it is about nights in basements with beer pong and the Childish Gambino album.” So, basically we’re in love. Some of That Girl Mag’s recent posts that we can’t get enough of: “How To Be a Hipster (According to Tumblr)” and “Surviving The Walk of Shame: Morning-After Style.”

College Info Geek

We know your goal in life (well, at least for now) is to be awesome at college, and that’s exactly where College Info Geek comes in! In fact, it’s the site’s motto. Run by Thomas Frank, a student at Iowa State University, the site “helps you become an all-star,” publishing articles like “10 Things You Can Do Right Now to Start The New Semester Off Right” and one of our personal favorites, “The Mutant Guide To Studying For Finals” (seriously, we love that one!) We also love Tom’s perspective on real-life issues like the election, living healthy, traveling, and more, and his posts are personal but always have a lesson behind them that students can relate to.

Her Campus (William & Mary)

Her Campus is great, but we are more specifically impressed by the College of William & Mary branch of the site. Editor-in-Chief Harper Yi and does a wonderful job of providing great info (and entertaining tweets!) for college gals, and the rest of the William & Mary team have posted some fabulous, fun, and unique articles, like “10 Things You Should Know About the Dalai Lama,” “Modeling…or Fear Factor?” and one by Harper herself, “20 Reasons to Keep Your Chin Up (Even Though It’s Finals Season)” Her Campus William & Mary continues to impress us with great content week after week, so you should definitely check them out!

Caveman College

We like Caveman College because it’s not your average, all-encompassing college blog. The site, run by writers Josh Singer and Max Ungar, is dedicated to helping college students live a healthy lifestyle. As they say in their mission statement, “We are excited to post about how students can effect their overall well being through fitness. If you want to get in, or stay in great shape throughout college, despite the challenges you may face, you have come to the right place!” Indeed you have! Their posts, like “How To Be Happy,” “10 Foods You Should Be Eating More Often” and “25 Awesome Things To Do On & Around Your Campus” are inspiring and motivating and very helpful for college students.
