Summer on a Student Budget

Finance — 24 April 2012

In light of the fact that I won’t be making much money this summer, I felt that it was appropriate to let you in on a few of the things that I like to do around the city without spending a lot of money. My student budget is already tight enough as it is, and the number of shopping malls in Toronto is enough to make my bank account slap me. Twice.

Hit the beach.
This is probably my favorite thing to do when I get back into the city. I’m one of those people who are either stay incredibly pale or burn profusely, but my SPF 60 sunscreen and I will gladly lie in the sun all day anyway. This summer will be no different.

Read…finally.
I only like reading specific kinds of books, though. I never really found time during the school year to read anything other than my textbooks. Even when I did have some extra time, the last thing I wanted to do was read even more. My textbooks contain too many words as it is. When I do find the time and motivation though, I usually read crime novels. But this year, I’m switching it up. I intend on getting through A Theory of Justice by John Rawls this summer. I seem to have fallen in love with his philosophy.

Coffee with friends.
I can’t even begin to explain how excited I get when I get a text from a friend asking if I want to grab a coffee. There are very few things that I love more than sitting on a patio with a cold drink and my sunglasses perched on top of my head. Coffee shops also don’t mind if you hang around for a while.

I’m back in the big city. I’m so ready!
