Video: Cell Phones Kill Your Happy [1/30]

World — 30 January 2013

If you’re anything like us, your cell phone is probably attached to your hand at all times. So, what if you had to live without your smartphone? What would life be like in this day and age without cell phones? You wouldn’t be able to text your friends all the time (or pretend you’re texting someone to avoid them on the path…) or play Angry Birds when you’re bored in class, and you wouldn’t be able to search IMDB for that person you think you recognize from the movie you’re watching unless you had a computer nearby. Sounds miserable, right?

Well, as it turns out, cell phones actually make us depressed, so if we went without them, we’d probably feel great after a while. This video from SourceFed discusses a new study that shows that cell phones are a distraction that removes us from the here and now – we focus more on them than the people around us – and this can lead to (dun dun dun!) mental illness and internet addiction! Another weird side effect: phantom vibrations (you know, when you think your phone went off but it didn’t and you’re reminded that you’re forever alone?) So basically, cell phones are not good for our mental health and maybe we should chill out a little with the Snapchatting and spend actual time with our friends and family. Just a thought.
