Video: College Before, During, And After [3/5]

Life — 05 March 2013

We’d be willing to bet that your opinion of college changed when you got there. As time went by, it probably changed even more. Even if you’re still in your first year, we’re pretty certain you have gone through a rollercoaster of emotions and feelings and opinions during your time at school. If you’ve graduated already, you definitely have a very different perspective of things (unless your life is a permanent party, in which case, go you!) In any case, most of you know what college feels like, before, during, and after (or after a while, at least.) And here’s how it usually goes:

  • Step 1: Become enamored with college. Talk about how much you love campus. Make tons of new friends. Have totally lame fun at orientation events. Judge people for partying.
  • Step 2: Discover alcohol. Party all the time. Wear warm weather clothes in below zero weather with no coat because it’s cool. Party more. Meet new party-friendly friends.
  • Step 3: Experience the college hangover. What were you thinking? Uh oh, finals are coming. Time to focus on grades. Turn 21. Now partying is less cool. Move on.
  • (Optional) Step 4: Graduate. As time goes by, completely forget how awkward being at college was. Watch all your friends get married/pregnant. Miss college.

YouTuber Georgie B, a hilariously sweet and very tragically under-viewed video personality knows what the college rollercoaster is like and that’s why she made a short video on how she felt about college before, during, and after orientation week. We have to say, it’s pretty accurate and is a fabulous mini representation of the way your opinions on college will change even in such a short period of time. Her video takes her from Step 1 to the very beginning stages of Step 3, that crucial moment during freshmen year when you realize, “Wait! I’m free! I can do whatever I want and nobody has to know!” Check out the video and just try not to self-identify. And to all you high school seniors about to graduate and move on to the college life? Let this be a warning to you.

P.S. Georgie? We love your “during” personality. We like chinchillas too.
